ECoS Controller
ECont is the Experiment Controllor, the part of ECoS/Win in which you run the
experiments created in the Experiment Generator. All components of the experiment,
including its stimuli, response alternatives, feedback, and timing, are carried
out as previously set in the EGen. ECont runs your experiment and also records
responses and lets you view the results.
From ECont, you can open an experiment file (*.exp). Before running an experiment,
you may test that the output is at an appropriate level using the Play command.
When ready to run the experiment you have opened, select Run. You are asked to
specify a file name for the results to be saved under, and then the experiment
begins.
Each block of an experiment has a response screen that is constant throughout
that block. The responses may be in the form of images or text. They may be arranged
in boxes or a scale. An audio file is played, and the subject uses the left-click
button on the mouse to select an appropriate response. If you specified within
EGen that auditory stimuli may be replayed, the subject may do so repeatedly by
using the right-click button of the mouse. Following a response, the next audio
file is played.

This
is the response screen for a perceptual rating task. In this experiment,
a set of audio signals is be rated with respect to voice quality. There
are no "correct" responses in the experiment, and we are interested in
the ratings given each auditory signal by the judge. |

Results
After the subject has finished the experiment, you can view the results within
ECont. Click the Result button to browse and view the output, which is saved
as text (.txt) and data (.dat) files. These files may also be examined by using
an editor or word processor (e.g., Notepad).
The information in the Results file includes the name of the auditory files,
the response chosen. Where appropriate, it tells you whether the response was
correct and provides a score of percentage correct for each block. If specified,
it gives the time taken for the response to be made. Basic information such
as the date the experiment was run, and the names of experiment files, is also
provided.

This
is the Results screen for an experiment that requires judges to rate voices
on a 7-point scale. The responses here are not scored as correct or incorrect.
These data may be imported into a word-processor or spreadsheet program for
further analysis. |
