Sails Modules
SAILS is provided as a series of modules, representing the most common phonological
error patterns (e.g., velar fronting, liquid gliding, fricative stopping, etc).
The modules are sequenced to gradually increase in difficulty so that a child
can progress from identifying easy to more difficult speech error sounds. This
approach lets you tailor SAILS assessment and therapy to each child's individual
needs.
SAILS uses natural speech recordings from many children and adults so that correctly-produced
sounds are contrasted with typical, naturally occuring, real-world errors for
each sound. The use of many different talkers promotes generalization to natural
listening situations and carry-over outside the clinical setting.
SAILS is provided with the following modules (all differing in an initial consonant)
- Cat (alveolar and stop substitution)
- Coat (alveolar and stop substitution)
- Rat (glide substitution and distortion)
- Rope (glide substitution and distortion)
- SHeet (stop, affricate, fricative substitution and distortion)
- SHoe (stop, affricate, fricative substitution and distortion)
- Soap (stop, affricate, fricative substitution and distortion)
- Sue (stop, affricate, fricative substitution and distortion)
- Lamb (glide substitution)
- Lake (glide substitution)
- CHin (stop substitution and distortion)
- CHain (stop substitution and distortion)
- THin (stop, affricate and fricative substition)
- THumb (stop, affricate and fricative substition)

All modules are provided with complete phonetic transcriptions to aid in assessing
speech problems and in planning treatment programs. Additional modules can be
created quickly and easily, using the SAILS Module Generator (ModGen).
