SAILS : Speech Assessment and Interactive Learning System

SAILS was developed by clinicians specializing in child speech and language disorders, to permit advanced assessment and treatment of articulation and phonological disorders in preschool and school-aged children. Based on years of scientific and clinical research, the SAILS approach has been demonstrated to be effective in identifying children who are unable to correctly discriminate between correct pronunciations and certain error sounds and to help them to learn to pronounce these sounds correctly. Natural speech recordings from many children and adults are used, so that correctly-produced sounds are contrasted with typical, real-world errors for each sound. The use of many different talkers promotes carry-over outside the clinical setting.

SAILS promotes learning by focusing the child's attention on those aspects of speech sounds that are the basis for distinguishing the various speech sound categories.
