ModGen
The modules of our SAILS package contain a large number of carefully-selected,
naturally-occurring misarticulations and correct utterances. However, for some
clinical applications, it may be desirable to supplement these modules so they
can use our SAILS approach with additional sound sets, including sounds targeting
various client dialects. To address this need, AVAAZ developed ModGen -- our SAILS
Module Generation system. With ModGen, it is now possible to use SAILS with languages
other than English, and/or to adapt SAILS modules for use with clients having
different dialects and/or accents.
In fact, our Module Generator lets you can create as many new assessment and training
modules as you wish, using your own speech files in Windows .wav audio file format.
ModGen also lets you use your own response images with SAILS, if this is desired.
ModGen lets you organize a number of such files, including both correct and incorrect
utterances of a particular target sound, into a series of assessment/treatment
modules. Each module can contain up to twenty blocks of trials, with each block
containing up to ten trials. As with the basic SAILS system, each of these trials
consists of the display of possible response choices and feedback images, the
selection of an audio file (i.e., one of the recorded utterances, which may be
either correctly pronounced or misarticulated), the presentation of this sound
for the client, the client's response, indicating how the utterance was heard,
and video-game feedback for motivation, information, and/or reward.
At the end of each trial, information about the sound presented (the file name
and phonetic transcription of the sound) and your client's response, are then
recorded to the output file you specify. At the conclusion of the test session,
this results file is scored automatically, and can then be printed out or imported
into a spreadsheet, report preparation, or other software package, for use in
preparing reports, or for further analysis.
